Baylor baton twirler wins Miss Texas 2016
Caroline Caruthers will compete in Miss America in September
She competed as Miss Plano
Caroline Carothers, a feature baton twirler for Baylor University, was crowned Miss Texas 2016 on Saturday night in Richardson.
Competing as Miss Plano, Carothers will now represent Texas in the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City on Sept. 11.
In addition to her baton twirling skill, which she’s been honing since age 6, her platform promoted an initiative to change students’ attitudes about math called With + Math = I Can. A member of Chi Omega sorority at Baylor, Carothers plans on being a math teacher, according to her web site,carolinecarothers.com.
She succeeds Shannon Sanderford, who as Miss Texas was a Top 10 finalist at the Miss America pageant last year.
Miss Houston Margan Wood was first runner-up Saturday night, followed by Miss Lubbock Sydney Webster, Miss Park Cities Madison Fuller and Miss Sam Houston Jizyah Shorts.
