Learn how to take the crown on the pageant scene with Miss Great Britain finalist
JENNIFER GLASGOW is in the running for Miss Great Britain but is also teaching aspiring beauty queens how to have confidence on the catwalk.
A Scots model has launched a pageant training service to teach aspiring beauty queens how to catwalk and boost their confidence.
Jennifer Glasgow, 27, hopes to use her experience to help increase the confidence of pageant hopefuls, giving them hints and tips on posing on the catwalk.
Just like popular TV shows, such as Britain’s Next Top Model, Jennifer will train the girls to model with confidence.
Dog groomer Jennifer, originally from Stepps, has taken part in various beauty pageants including Miss Glasgow, National and Treasure and Beauty Scotland in the last four years and will represent Glasgow at the national final of Miss Great Britain.
She said she has benefited from pageant training and thinks young girls can, too.
Jennifer said: "I’ve have done a lot of training days myself and I think they are beneficial, it doesn’t matter what level you are at whether you have done a million pageants or you are just starting out because I help out with directing pageants I see a lot of girls, especially the younger ones, who don’t really have confidence.
"This a chance for them to have a practice before they go on stage and they can see other people doing different poses and they can pick up on a few hints and tips, it’s just to get them more confident before they go on stage."
The event held in Glasgow last month had guest speakers including Mrs Inspiration UK Melissa McNaughton, who gave a speech on the pros and cons of beauty pageants as well as giving advice on how to walk and talk and making the most of their pageant experience.
The 27- year old pageant veteran said: "I have been in the modelling industry since I was four. I was signed as a model and when I got to the age of 16 I didn’t grow any taller, so it meant I couldn’t do any catwalk modelling but I still wanted to stay within the industry and pageants were the next step forward. From that I have learned interviews skills, life skills and made friends from all around the world and I absolutely love it."
Also speaking at the event, Lisa Smith gave an insight on her hectic life as mum to eight-year-old Junior Crown & Glory queen Brooke Smith.
She said: ”Being a pageant mum is almost a full time job, It’s a lot of responsibility and a lot of hard work but its very rewarding helping your child realising their dreams.”
Lisa, from Coatbridge, entered Brooke in her first pageant in July 2015. Since then she has won Crown & Glory Scotland and travelled to Wales to compete in Crow & Glory UK where she won her second crown, her first national title.
As well as competing in various pageants, Brooke has dedicated a lot of time in hosting events such as raffles, race nights and an online photo competitions and many more events resulting in raising £8,000 for charity.
Lisa said: “She's always on the go doing something, she's also sold a lot of her out-grown clothes, toys and clothes to the Jack & Jill market and made a good few hundred pounds doing that, she's always looking for something to do to raise money.”
For Lisa, pageants have had a positive affect on her daughter and says it has enabled Brooke to build up her confidence, along with making new friends along the way ands raising thousand of pounds for charity.
She said: ”It’s nice to see her make some great friends, build her confidence and do some good for the world.”
Jennifer hopes to host more pageant training workshops, and thinks it can be a great confidence booster for girls who may not even compete in pageants.
She said: ”Even if you’re not doing beauty pageants it’s a good confidence builder to come along to,especially young girls if they want t be a model when there older, they can come here and learn how to catwalk, and do public speaking. You don’t have to take part in beauty pageants to do it and its a good way to meet new people.”
