Pia's arrival in PH sparks excitement online

MANILA - Since her memorable win at the Miss Universe pageant last month, fans of Filipina beauty queen Pia Wurtzbach have been eagerly looking forward to her trip home. 
And nowhere is the excitement more evident than in social media site Twitter, which saw a spike in the number of tweets as Wurtzbach was crowned Miss Universe back on December 20. 
According to data from Twitter, the whole of the Miss Universe pageant garnered over 6.7 million mentions. There was also an additional 1.2 million mentions during the first month of Wurtzbach's reign. 
Of course, a bulk of those could be attributed to the controversial conclusion to the international pageant where host Steve Harvey erroneously crowned Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez instead of Wurtzbach. 
Regardless, the official Twitter account of Miss Universe nearly doubled its followers in just a month since Wurtzbach won --from 376,000 on December 20 to 527,000 on January 22.
