2015 Miss Universe Pageant arrival

Traffic on the Strip came to a screeching halt Monday afternoon as the 80-plus glamorous 2015 Miss Universe Pageant contestants had their official arrival ceremony on the steps of Planet Hollywood.
Reigning Miss Universe Paulina Vega, 22, of Barranquilla, Colombia, drove up in a stretch limousine and greeted 21-year-old Ariadna Arevalo Gutierrez, who hails from the same hometown (also the same hometown of singer Shakira and actress and newlywed Sofia Vergara!) and is competing this year with hopes for a repeat victory. She grabbed the majority of the media’s flashbulbs in a striking gold dress.
I had a brief opportunity to welcome Paulina at the ceremony presided over by my friend and former “Star Search” colleague Miss Universe Organization President Paula Shugart and Planet Hollywood Regional President David Hoenemeyer.
Paulina will crown her successor at Britney Spears’ Axis at Planet Hollywood theater Sunday, Dec. 20. Our thanks to MUO for its photos and to contributing videographer Richard Corey for his video posted on YouTube.
Amina Dagi, 20-year-old Miss Austria, is one of the tallest contestants in a Miss Universe Pageant just an eyelash under our 5-foot-11 Miss USA Olivia Jordan of Oklahoma. Amina, a Russian-Austrian model, was appointed Miss Austria when Annika Grill resigned due to competing in the rival Miss World Pageant.
Olivia is the first Miss Oklahoma to be crowned Miss USA. The beauty princesses pre-taped their first segments of the Fox telecast at the Planet Hollywood restaurant in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace on Sunday morning.
After their official arrival Monday, they were treated to dinner at the new Buca di Beppo in Bally’s where they also filmed a segment at Tequila Taqueria.
Today, the glamour girls filmed an Emois segment at Neon Museum downtown and the first of their national costume shoots. This afternoon, they visited nearby Zappos on behalf of shoe sponsor Chinese Laundry.
On Wednesday, they receive beauty treatments while relaxing at Encore Spa. Others will play a roommate newlywed game for the cameras at star chef Julian Serrano’s new restaurant Lago in Bellagio.
On Thursday, all the contestants will take a gift from their country to donate to a 4-hour silent auction at Opportunity Village’s Magical Forest, 6300 W. Oakey Blvd.
I’ll chat there with Olivia, 26, who has appeared in several movies, including “Ted” and “Hot Tub Time Machine 2.” We’ll post that Q+A before next week’s preliminary pageant appearances.
