PH bet gives pearls to 2015 Miss Universe candidates
Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach gave pearl earrings as souvenirs to her co-candidates in the 2015 Miss Universe beauty pageant on-going in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Wurtzbach, 26, said that she also brought pearls for the National Gift Auction Day for the pageant recently.
“Of course, I brought pearls. Cultivated and framed from the rich seas of the Philippines,” said Wurtzbach on her Instagram.
The beauty queen said that she was proud of the pearls because she was “getting a lot of bids for these.”
But what the girls do not know yet, Wurtzbach added, “that I have pearl earrings for each one of them.”
The Filipino-German actress was scheduled to distribute the pearl earrings last weekend.
Wurtzbach said that the she was enjoying every moment of her stay in Nevada despite the hectic schedule.
“Everything’s been happening so fast and everyday is packed with activities. Busy is always good! Good thing I’m a workaholic,” the beauty queen from Cagayan de Oro said.
“Ang lamig dito sa Vegas pero tuloy pa rin ang laban! So happy to be wearing this (Philippines) sash. You guys have no idea,” added Wurtzbach.

On Dec. 16, Wednesday (Dec. 17 Manila time), judges will select the Top 15 semi-finalists during the preliminary competition at The Axis, Planet Hollywood, in Las Vedas.
In the past, the Miss Universe candidates model in swimsuit and evening gown during the preliminary competition. A separate one-on-one interview of the candidates with the judges is also held.
Under the new management of WME/IMG, observers believe that the most prestigious beauty pageant would soon have a new format.
Eighty girls are competing in this year’s pageant. But the Top 15 semi-finalists are expected to be revealed during the grand finals which would be broadcast live on Dec. 20 (Dec. 21 in Manila).
Aside from Philippines, other candidates forecast to join the semi-finals include delegates from USA, Venezuela, Vietnam, India, Thailand, Colombia, Sweden, Peru, Brazil, France, Dominican Republic, among others.
This year’s preliminary judges are Vice President of Global Fashion Communications at IMG Erika Albies; independent film and TV producer Julio Caro; Director for Digital Partnerships for WME/IMG Keiko Uraguchi; “Entertainment Tonight: correspondent Nischelle Turner; entrepreneur Rocky Motwani and marketing expert Zak Soreff.
