Miss Vermont Pageant crowns new royalty
Two young Vermont women are still celebrating their crownings at the Miss Vermont Pageant, held May 27 at Barre Opera House in Barre, Vermont. Rylee Field, 24, of Montpelier was crowned Miss Vermont 2016. She will represent her state at this year’s Miss America Pageant, which is scheduled to be televised live on the ABC television network on Sept. 11.
Alexandra Diehl of Albans was crowned Miss Vermont’s Outstanding Teen 2016. In early August, she will compete in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando, Florida. The teen pageant is the younger-sister competition within the Miss America Organization. They compete for scholarships in the categories of talent, interview, evening gown and sportswear.
Field, 24, attended Colby Sawyer College. Her talent is a recitation of the poem “Mockingbird.” Her pageant platform is “ Find a Happy Place - Positive Mental Health & Wellness.” “ I have spent the last 10 years finding ways to continue a discussion about the importance of good mental health, because for the last 10 years I've been learning what it means to live with depression,”she wrote on the pageant website.
Alexandra is 15 years old and a student at Rice Memorial High School. Her talent is a contemporary pointe ballet interpretation of Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger.” Her pageant platform is “ “Y.E.S.S! (Youths Exercising for Strength and Success).” “My platform plan of action includes continuing to teach fitness classes including martial arts, ballet and horseback riding with the help of local coaches and media,” she wrote in a statement on the pageant website. “I want to continue to hold meetings and events to discuss the importance of exercise and to work with the YMCA and the Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the state."
