Miss Tulsa, Sarah Klein, crowned Miss Oklahoma

Sarah Klein, competing as Miss Tulsa, was crowned Miss Oklahoma 2016 at Oral Roberts University’s Mabee Center Saturday night.
The 24-year-old graduate of the University of Oklahoma won the overall talent award in the second night’s preliminary competition on Wednesday, one day after she won a preliminary round in the swimsuit competition.
For the talent competition, she played a classical piano solo, “Carmen Fantasy Variations” by Vladimir Horowitz.
Her platform is “Supporting our Troops from Deployment to Employment.”
The daughter of Rick and Teresa Klein, Sarah Klein won in her sixth year of competing in the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant and in her last year of eligibility.
“Several times I thought to myself ‘Do I want to do this again?’ But (my parents) kept pushing me and encouraging me and supporting me every step of the way, financially, emotionally, physically, every single way.”
The first thing she’s going to do as Miss Oklahoma is celebrate with a Braum’s brownie fudge sundae with no whip cream and extra almonds, she said, laughing. Then, she’s going to start preparing for Miss America.
“I can’t believe this is real,” she said.
“To be Miss Oklahoma is such a huge honor. I’m so excited, so blessed, so speechless.”
Klein said she is most looking forward to speaking with children at schools from across the state during her reign.
The opportunity is special, she said, because of her background as a teacher. Klein taught third grade in Jenks Public Schools.
Klein succeeds Miss Oklahoma 2015 Georgia Frazier and will compete in the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City in September. Ashten Vincent, Miss Queen of the West, took first runner-up in the competition.
