A Saskatchewan law student was named the 2016 winner at the Miss Universe Canada finals this past weekend. Siera Bearchell, 23, was raised in Moose Jaw and did her home province proud at the beauty pageant in Toronto.
Bearchell is enroled in the college of law at the University of Saskatchewan and took home “Best Runway” and won the award for “Miss Photogenic” on June 11.
Amherstburg’s Amber Bernachi placed second and all four runner-up contestants were from Ontario.
One of the top 20 quarter finalists named at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts was Saskatoon’s Jillian Martin. She was a member of the 2016 Saskatchewan Rush dance team.

In 2012, she was a Saskatchewan recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for demonstrating an outstanding commitment to her local community.
The entrepreneur is the co-founder and co-owner of Watered Down Apparel. With every item sold, the business helps provide clean water to projects in Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia and Haiti.
The Moose Jaw woman will represent Canada at the Miss Universe beauty pageant later this year. A Canadian representative was last crowned in 2005.
Bearchell has experience on the international stage having been first runner-up to 2015’s Miss Supranational in Poland.
