LAS VEGAS – Nearly seven months after being named Miss Hawaii to earn a spot in the 2016 Miss USA pageant, former Cal Poly volleyball standout Chelsea Hardin finished second in the competition on Sunday evening among 52 contestants.
Hardin, an outside hitter for the Mustangs from 2009-13, was the first runner-up behind District of Columbia representative and 2016 winner Deshauna Barber. The 2016 Miss USA pageant was held at the T-Mobile Arena.
While competing for Cal Poly, Hardin amassed 589 total kills, averaged 1.87 career kills per set and collected 142 blocks. A 2013 All-Big West Conference first team selection, Hardin recorded 238 kills during her senior year alongside 28 blocks.
A Honolulu native, Hardin was a 2008 All-Hawaii first team selection as a senior at Iolani HS. She was also named to the Honolulu Star-Bulletin's All-State Fab 15 as a junior after helping Iolani HS to a 26-5-2 overall record and a runner-up finish at the 2007 Hawaii High School Athletic Association State Tournament.
