1st Lt. Deshauna Barber was crowned Miss USA on Sunday in Las Vegas, as the pageant continued to move on from Donald Trump's ownership, but the possible commander-in-chief-in-waiting still casts his shadow over her.

When asked during her Q&A question who she would vote for between Trump and Hillary Clinton, the 26-year-old Barber kicked away the question like a live grenade, and she nailed all the gotchas, noted USA Today.

So far, there's been no comment from Trump on the pageant's maiden voyage under new ownership.

Barber, who entered the contest as Miss District of Columbia, was commissioned as a quartermaster officer in 2011 and is currently an Army Reserves logistics commander for the 988th Quartermaster Detachment Unit at Fort Meade in Maryland, noted her pageant biography.

Barber earned social media buzz for her answer to a question about women serving in combat positions, in what USA Today called a "mic drop moment."

"As a woman in the United States Army, I think it is an amazing job by our government to allow women to integrate into every branch of the military," Barber said. "We are just as tough as men. As a commander of my unit I am powerful, I am dedicated and it's important to recognize that gender does not limit us in the United States Army."

Barber, who works full-time as an information technology analyst for the U.S. Department of Commerce, teared up as her name was announced as the winner, beating out first runner-up Chelsea Hardin, Miss Hawaii, and second runner-up Emanii Davis, Miss Georgia, noted CNN.

This Miss USA pageant was the first since the parent Miss Universe Organization and Trump, who owned it, parted ways, noted Variety

Trump sold the Miss Universe Organization to WME/IMG in September after the 12-year partnership ended in controversy, according to Variety. He had sued NBCUniversal and Univision for breach of contract after NBC and Univision dropped the telecast of the Miss Universe pageant following controversial comments he made about Mexican immigrants last July. Those suits were settled out of court.
