From the moment the 52 beauties competing in the 2016 Miss USA Pageant arrived in Las Vegas at their MGM Grand headquarters, they have been on an around-the-clock whirl of activities.
There have been judges interviews, photo sessions, poolside modeling shoots, wardrobe fittings, rehearsals for Sunday’s Fox broadcast from T-Mobile Arena and the preliminary pageant Wednesday to identify the 15 finalists announced at the start of Sunday’s pageant.
Despite that breakneck, nonstop schedule, they’ve found time to visit Las Vegas attractions, shows and nightclubs, run a keep-fit class at Red Rock Canyon and host a fashion show benefit for military families with the USO’s “Operation That’s My Dress.”

Their USO fashion show at Bally’s gave military teens in the Las Vegas area the chance to select a gown or cocktail dress from designer Sherri Hill. The pageant princesses also organized a Beauty Bar with jewelry and fashion accessories for participants to get a new look from head to toe.
After the fashion show, the glamour girls opened a Dress Expo with more than 1,000 selections. The contestants paired with military teens and helped them find the dress of their dreams.
Stylists were on hand to provide hair and makeup demonstrations and consultations at the Style Spa to give the “military brats” resources to help them feel confident and beautiful.
Miss USA Olivia Jordan of Oklahoma told me: “Military teens experience unique challenges related to military life with frequent moves, deployments and adapting to new homes and communities. This project lets the USO express its gratitude to our military families for the sacrifices they make every day.”
The event marked the 75th anniversary of the USO, and one of the organizers told me: “It’s amazing how they bond with the military teens. They become lifelong friends and wind up mentoring them.”

I talked with Emmy about her week with the pageant and her roommate. “I was partnered up with Miss Pennsylvania Elena LaQuatra. I absolutely love her. She’s so sweet and bubbly. I’m really happy I’m rooming with her.
“This is all so surreal. I can’t believe I’m finally here. I feel like the pageant just came up out of nowhere. I’m so excited that it’s in my hometown. I’ve been preparing ever since before I won, I feel like. You know, it took me three times to win the title, Miss Nevada USA, and I’m here, and I’m ready.
“We do have a new contestant, Miss 52 USA, this year who’s going to add to the excitement. She is so sweet. She is from Oklahoma. Everybody has been asking me what it’s like to live in Las Vegas. I tell them that it’s fun. We have a little bit of everything.
“A lot of the girls aren’t used to the dry heat. Everyone is really dehydrated, and most of them have never been here before, so this is a big culture shock for them.”
The bombshell beauties filmed video clips that will be shown during Sunday’s pageant. Several contestants spent a girls night out at Cirque du Soleil’s “Ka” at MGM Grand.
The acrobats and aerialists dazzled the hopefuls with their breathtaking skills, especially during the final battle scene. After the show, the state titleholders took photographs with their favorite artists in the lobby.
Another group of Miss USA contestants enjoyed singing and dancing the night away at the “I Love the ’90s Show,” part of Mandalay Bay’s Concerts on the Beach series.
Another group watched Blue Man Group at the Luxor, where they were treated to a VIP meet-and-greet with the cast. And yet another group danced with the Jabbawockeez at their MGM Grand show.
In one get-together, all 52 contestants took a tour of the Park outside T-Mobile Arena and enjoyed dinner at Beerhaus.
Now it’s down to the final three days, and that means early to bed — even if there are pillow fights — and sticking to a strict diet so that they are picture perfect for the competition Sunday.
