Miss Tibet Pema Choedon says she has been tailed by Chinese spies
Miss Tibet Pema Choedon is apparently not feeling all that exuberant with her title due to alleged harassment by Chinese spies. Phayul.com reported on Nov. 27, 2015, Choedon says Chinese spies tailed her on her trip to the Philippines for a beauty pageant. While she was travelling to take part in the Miss Global beauty pageant in Manila, Philippines last month Choedon says two unidentified men kept following her.
Choedon is an English literature student at Jawaharlal Nehru University which is located in New Delhi, India. She says during her flights to and from the Philippines where she went to be a participant in the Miss Global 2015 pageant she was followed by two Asian men. Although this story appears to be from a spy movie to some people it appears to those who know the situation well between Tibet and China that it may be true.
Choedon says that the two Asian men who were tailing her kept a safe distance from her. She says she is concerned that whoever may be sending these men and spending so much money clearly has the resources to do far more serious acts. She says when she tried to speak to the two men they just ran away. Choedon posted a comment on Facebook about the two men saying they looked like Chinese spies.
China has given women in beauty pageants trouble before. Miss Canada Anastasia Lin, who is a Falun Gong practitioner and an immigrant to Canada, was refused a visa to take part in the Miss World 2015 pageant which was in China. A Chinese official commented China does not allow any persona non grata to visit China. Lin says she will continue to speak about human rights violations in the country where she was born even though there are some fears for the well being of her family members in China.
In another case of trouble from China Miss Taiwan Ting Wen Yi was thrown out of the Miss Earth 2015 pageant which was held in Vienna, Austria after she said she would not wear a sash which read Miss Chinese Taipei. She commented to reporters that she said thousands of times that Taiwan is Taiwan and that is where she was born. She said her sash had to say Taiwan since she represents Taiwan.
Tibet Sun reported on Choedon's participation in the Miss Global Pageant. The reigning Miss Tibet Choedon was among contestants from about 50 different countries across the world who were seeking the crown of the Miss Global 2015 Beauty Pageant which was hosted in the Philippines. She was crowned Miss Tibet 2015 in June.
Choedon said she was honored to represent Tibet at the pageant in Manila and that being in the Philippines was like a dream come true. Miss Global Organization reported Miss Australia Jessica Peart emerged victorious at the 2015 pageant in the Philippines. However Choedon looked great and did a fantastic job representing Tibet.
