ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Miss Arkansas Savvy Shields has won a preliminary talent competition at the 2017 Miss America pageant.
Shields, 21, of Fayetteville, was named Wednesday night’s preliminary Talent winner for her jazz dance performance to the song “Just Keep Moving the Line” from the former TV show “Smash.” She will receive a $2,000 scholarship. Click here to watch her performance.
Shields was crowned Miss Arkansas on July 9 in Hot Springs. She is a senior at the University of Arkansas where she is majoring in Art with a minor in Business.
Another Arkansan was honored on the Miss America stage Wednesday night. Bailey Moses, Miss Arkansas State University, was recognized as a miracle maker for the Children's Miracle Network (CMN) after Arkansas was announced as the number two ranked state organization in fundraising for CMN. In picking up the award for Arkansas, Moses shared her platform story.
The third night of preliminary competition is tonight at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City and the finals are Sunday night with the crowning of a new Miss America.
