The average number of viewers for the Miss America competition is much less than those of the last three broadcast competitions, according to a Press story from last year:
- 2015: 7.9 million viewers
- 2014: 7.1 million viewers
- 2013: 8.6 million viewers
The Miss America Organization said its broadcast delivered the largest non-sports audience to the channel during that time slot in 8 weeks.
The pageant gathered a slew of celebrities throughout the night. The judging panel carried heavyweights such as pop performer Ciara, Mark Cuban, Dallas Mavericks' owner and "Shark Tank" personality, as well as Olympic gymnast and Final Five member Gabby Douglas.
The evening was hosted by Chris Harrison, known for his time on "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette," and ESPN analyst Sage Steele.
