THINK you have what it takes to be Miss Universe Malaysia 2017? If yes, head over to their walk-in auditions beginning Saturday for a life-changing experience.
Miss Universe Malaysia Organisation (MUMO) national director Elaine Daly said this year, the search would be held on a different scale.
“It is my vision to integrate social media with the Miss Universe Malaysia pageant because we are living in the digital era.
“Everything is faster and more effective through this platform.
“This time around, we are looking for girls with the right attitude – those who are positive, determined, risk-takers and gamed.
“More importantly, they must be clear about their intentions for joining as winning this pageant can change their lives forever,” said Daly.
At the walk-in auditions, which will be held in five states this month, 50 candidates will be shortlisted.
These 50 will undergo grooming, training and multiple tests to challenge them physically, mentally and emotionally.
“Miss Universe Malaysia will carry the title wherever she goes and automatically become a public figure.
“So, she will have to be comfortable taking the stage with confidence,” said Daly, who was crowned Miss Universe Malaysia 2003.
She added that the winner would have a platform to brand herself, carry out her passion, and have opportunities to network and work with prominent, influential figures and leading fashion players from all over the world.
Of the 50 candidates, 18 finalists will be selected for a two-week reality programme to further refine their skills.
In line with the social-media driven approach, Daly said the programme would also be streamed in a series of webisodes capturing the whole process of selecting a deserving winner in the newly-launched online lifestyle channel, hurr.tv.
Hurr.tv, which stands for Hip, Urban, Relevant and Real television, is targeted at online viewers aged 15 years and interested in all things trendy and urban.
The channel’s content strategy is focused on providing the latest in lifestyle, fashion, fitness, travel, music, events and contemporary issues.
“With the convenience of the Internet, fans can easily catch the show twice a week instead of having to wait for a week to watch an episode on the television,” added Daly.
This year’s judges for the auditions will be Daly, actress and former beauty queen Debbie Goh and actor-producer-director Hans Isaac.
The winner will win the coveted title and crown, as well as cash and sponsored prizes worth up to RM200,000.
More importantly, she will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent Malaysia at the Miss Universe pageant alongside contestants from all over the world.
“Don’t be afraid, girls. We hope to see brave candidates come forward as we would like to meet you.
“Beauty pageants are more than just skin-deep. It is very empowering, inspiring and I believe this is a great platform for those who want to step up in this career,” said Daly.
The walk-in auditions will be held at G Hotel Kelawai, Penang (June 4), Horizon Hotel, Kota Kinabalu (June 11), The Old Courthouse, Kuching (June 12), Leisure Farm, Johor Baru (June 18) and The Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur (June 25) from 9am to 5pm.
The audition is open to non-Muslim Malaysian females aged between 18 and 25 years as of 2016 with a minimum height of 168cm.
The MUMO is the country’s premier pageant and reality television event conducted annually. Conceived in 1952 and revamped in 2010, it is conceptualised to provide a platform for young, ambitious Malaysian women to represent their nation on the international stage.
