The Miss USA Pageant Sunday night holds a lot of interest, especially for Lauderdale County.
The Miss USA Pageant Sunday night holds a lot of interest, especially for Lauderdale County.
Our own Haley Sowers is Miss Mississippi USA and she's vying for the national title in Las Vegas. She told Newscenter 11 Thursday that she has dreamed of this time in her life since she was a child.
This week has been filled with rehearsals. Haley competed Wednesday night in the swimsuit preliminary and had her interview Thursday morning.
"I really wanted to take this opportunity to make a difference in Mississippi in general. I didn't just want to have a pretty crown and a title and not really use it for the better of Mississippi," said Sowers. "So I'm just really honored to be in this position."
The new Miss USA will move to New York City and be an advocate for breast cancer awareness.
Haley says she likes the Miss USA message of encouraging all young people to be the best they can be and talk about what's important to them.
