Tulsa’s Olivia Jordan will relinquish the Miss USA title when a new Miss USA is crowned Sunday night.
Big question: Does she get to keep the crown?
“I wish that I got to keep the crown, but I just get to keep the memories,” she said during a phone interview from Las Vegas, site of the 2016 Miss USA Pageant.
“The crown is actually worth a quarter of a million dollars. It’s made of diamonds and sapphires and rubies. It’s insanely gorgeous. It has been such an honor to wear the crown throughout the year. I don’t know if you have every really seen the pictures, but if you look at it closely it really does look like the most All-American little image because it has stars and these red, white and blue accents. It was really an honor to wear it for a year and it will be an honor to pass it to the next woman who gets that position.”
Because the crown is worth so much, wasn’t she scared someone might take it?
“I rarely had the crown on me. We have people who help that travel with us. We have a travel manager. We have security. If I wasn’t physically wearing the crown at any moment, I passed it to the next person because I did not want to be responsible if anything happened and thankfully we made it through the year. I think the burden is off me and on to the next one. Nothing happened. Nothing went wrong.”
