Nearly 10,000 people sign petition to reinstate Miss Great Britain title to Zara Holland
Celebrity backers include Anthea Turner and Jasmine Lennard who have both called for her to be re-crowned
Love Island contestant Zara Holland was stripped of her Miss Great Britain title last week and there is now a petition to get it reinstated.
As of writing, 9,860 people have so far signed the Change.org petition titled 'Give Zara Holland her Miss GB title back'.
The 20-year-old beauty had her title removed after having sex with Vicky Pattison's ex-beau Alex Bowen a day after he arrived on the ITV2 show.
In a statement the Miss GB organisation said they were left with "no choice" but to remove her crown and award it to the first runner-up Deone Robertson who will be Miss GB for the remainder of the year.
Zara was left in tears when she was told the news in the villa, but chose to remain in the house, but then a day later left anyway after receiving news of a family illness.
After revealing the news to her fellow Islanders she then told the each Hut: "I did Miss Great Britain because I wanted to. It’s something I wanted to do.
"And if you put that hard work in and the commitment and the time and the effort…I did and I won, and I worked so hard.
"And now I just made one silly, stupid mistake of being in the moment has ruined everything. I can’t even put into words how gutted I am. So if they want to give me it back that’s fine!”
The decision of her de-crowning has sparked fierce debate and the petition appears to have been set up in response by fan Dell Bennett, who says: "As you are aware Zara Holland is Miss Great Britain and is on a reality TV show called Love Island, she is there to find love and it is not working out as much as she hoped.
"Recently Zara had a fumble which was aired on the show and now unfortunately this has cost her the title of Miss Great Britain. I think it is a harsh punishment stripping her of her title for a silly little mistake and for only being human.
"I am aware that having a title like that comes with responsibilities and I for one think she has been absolutely amazing, she has shown she is a strong positive person, we have to remember she is still a young lady and what happened was only natural. I think she should be given a second chance as Miss Great Britain!"
Those supporting the petition include TV personality Anthea Turner and reality TV star Jasmine Lennard, who said in a tweet sharing the link: "This should probably be signed..."
Other comments include: "She's an adult who made a choice, she has not broken any law, she's hasn't embarrassed anybody she simply had sex."
While another added: "Because I love Zara and it's not the dark ages."
Bosses of the pageant have confirmed she was told not to have sex on TV before entering the show, and while they backed her going on it - they cannot defend her sex antics since.

"We feel it important to explain that we have no problem at all with sex and our contestants/winners being sexually active and exploring their sexuality with another consensual adult,' Miss GB bosses told Mail Online in a statement.
"This has never, and will never be a problem. However, we simply cannot condone a reigning title holder doing so on TV."
They went on to compare it to a school teacher taking part in the show, and insisted they would also face certain responsiblities.
"We gave our permission for Zara to enter, as our current winner, under the stipulation that she did not have sex on TV. Zara fully agreed to this and knowingly went against our wishes," the statement continued.
They added: "Zara is a lovely girl, we understand that this is out of character for her and that she truly regrets her actions; however, the decision simply comes down to the fact that she has broken the rules of the competition."
The official statement of Zara's de-crowning read: “Following recent actions within ITV2 show ' Love Island ' it is with deep regret that we, the Miss Great Britain Organisation, have to announce that Zara Holland has formally been de-crowned as Miss Great Britain."
"As an organisation we have not taken this decision lightly, we are close to all of our winners and wherever possibly stand by them during their rein. That said, we feel we have no choice but to make this decision under the circumstances.

"The feedback we have received from pageant insiders and members of the general public is such that we cannot promote Zara as a positive role model moving forward.
“We wholly understand that everyone makes mistakes, but Zara, as an ambassador for Miss Great Britain, simply did not uphold the responsibility expected of the title.”
Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
