Kenya could be on its way to hosting the first ever Miss World in Nairobi. Brand Kenya and the Ministry of Sports Culture and The Arts made the announcement on Tuesday at a press conference.
“Kenya is increasingly becoming the hub of international trade fairs, exhibition and events having successfully hosted the World Trade Organization 10th Ministerial conference and notable personalities like the President of the United States of America Barack Obama and the Pope Francis, among many other events. We are confident that this visit will open up avenues for the country to host the 2016 Miss World competitions,” said Mary Luseka, the acting CEO of Brand Kenya.
Miss World 2015 Mireia Lalaguna to the country is on a tour of the country and was received by Miss World Kenya 2014-2015 Idah Nguma, Miss World Kenya 2015-16 Ebrahim Roshanara, Mr Kenya Kevin Owiti and Miss World Kenya Franchise holder Terry Mungai at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Monday evening. Mireia Lalaguna is carrying out local programmes for ‘Smile Train Africa’.
At the airport, Roshanara and Kevin came late to receive the beauty queen and they never managed to go the VIP lounge as they were not accredited by the KAA. They had to wait for the Lalaguna and her team along the traditional dancers at the parking.
