TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- The winner of Miss Waikiki 2017, Jocelyn K. Louie, will be visiting Taiwan later this month for the first time to attend a seminar series on missile disarmament and cybersecurity in Taipei.
A computer science major at Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu, serendipity led to Louie's trip to Taiwan. When volunteering with the Kidney Foundation, she met a speaker giving a presentation on missile disarmament and cybersecurity in the Asia-Pacific region, who suggested Louie apply to attend the seminar series in Taipei.
She was accepted and will indeed be attending the International School on Disarmament and Research (ISODARCO) seminar series on missile disarmament and cybersecurity in Asia and the Pacific, which will take place at Academia Sinica in Taipei from May 26 - May 28.

There will be a welcome ceremony for seminar participants hosted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs on May 25 at the Academia Sinica. There will be approximately 80-100 scholars attending the seminar series as well as several guest lecturers from Italy, America, Russia, and New Zealand.
On May 29, after attending the three-day seminar, Louie and her cohorts will be taken on a cultural tour which will include Taipei 101, Longshan Temple, and the Shilin night market.
Louie already has a Taiwanese friend, Crystal C. Yang, a native of Hualien, who she met while competing in the Miss Chinatown Hawaii pageant. Yang suggested that when she visits Taiwan she should "eat as much street food as possible."
