Miss America Organization moves headquarters to Boardwalk Hall
ATLANTIC CITY — While Miss America herself gets to travel across the country, fulfilling the duties of the crown, the Miss America Organization has planted new roots, moving the national headquarters to Boardwalk Hall.
Miss America 2017 Savvy Shields, alongside Mayor Don Guardian, Boardwalk Hall General Manager Jim Wynkoop, CRDA Executive Director Chris Howard and Sam Haskell and Josh Randell of The Miss America Organization, cut a ceremonial ribbon and explained the significance of the Miss America offices being right in the heart of Boardwalk Hall.
“We’re all excited to call Boardwalk Hall home,” said Josh Randle, chief operations officer for the Miss America Organization.
“It’s certainly going to make it a lot easier during the competition to not have to load everything up and schlep it over here.”
In 2013, The Miss America Organization moved back to Atlantic City after eight years of the competition being held in Las Vegas.
The organization’s offices were previously in the Claridge Hotel.
In October, the CRDA approved a lease agreement with the Miss America Organization for the 1,800-square-foot space, formerly occupied by the Atlantic City Alliance.
“This building was already their home,” said CRDA Executive Director Chris Howard.
“Atlantic City is the birthplace of the Miss America competition. Given that history, it seems only fitting that today we’re here to welcome the Miss America Organization’s National Offices to our historic venue.”
Shields, calling Atlantic City her “Miss America home,” explained the connection she has with the building, where she spent two weeks performing and competing, leading up to the moment she was crowned.
“Every time I come to Atlantic City and to Boardwalk Hall, it is a very emotional and nostalgic moment for me,” said Shields.
Though Shields only has four months left in her reign and may not return to Atlantic City until the competition gets underway in September, she will stay connected to the home office.
“One of my tour managers gave me a necklace, and it reads the latitude and longitude of Boardwalk Hall, so I get to carry this place with me.”
