Congratulations and thank you’s

It’s been a week since Maria Angelica “Mariel” de Leon, eldest daughter of veteran actors Christopher de Leon and Sandy Andolong, was selected to represent the Philippines in the upcoming Miss International pageant but people are still talking about it.

This early, many predict Mariel can snag a back-to-back win for the country, following Kylie Verzosa’s historic win last year. The Philippines already owns six Miss International crowns since it was established in 1960. Mariel just might get us our 7th if fate smiles on her.
Sandy immediately took to Instagram to express elation over her daughter’s win, posting, “Thankful and grateful to our loving and faithful God almighty. Our princess is now a queen.”
Christopher posted this message to his daughter: “To see our Lord God’s hands moving to where you are right now and taking this as the start of a bright future for you with our good Lord God beside you, that’s it!”
Mariel is “the first beauty queen in our clan,” he noted.
This is not the first time Mariel competed at the Bb. Pilipinas pageant having also joined it in 2013, finishing at the Top 15.
Mariel shared her latest Binibini journey on Instagram.
“This is the night that changed my life. The night the lion came out! It made it even more memorable because I was crowned by Kylie Verzosa! Miss International was always the crown I was dreaming of because they represent ethereal beauties who are strong but gentle, compassionate, intelligent, kind, and are willing to take action to change the world. God has answered my prayers. His love is amazing! Thank you, Father!”
She thanked her parents and siblings for their unending support.

“Without you guys, I am nothing and I wouldn’t be the woman I am today. We have all always shared so much love with each other and I am so grateful for all of you. God has blessed me with the best parents and siblings ever! I love you all,” she said.
Later, she further mused about her bond with them.
“The most beautiful thing in this world is to see your parents smiling, and knowing that you’re the reason behind that smile. Thank you for supporting me through whatever I want to pursue in life. Thank you for teaching me to always be kind, respectful, and hard working. And of course for always telling me to pray and to thank God for everything and everyone in my life. I am so blessed to have such loving, generous, and supportive parents. I love you, Nanay and Tatay!”
Mariel also expressed gratitude to her boyfriend, Eric Luz, who was “always sending me loving and kind words whenever I felt down and for always making me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world!”
