Chhavi Verg held the hand of Kara McCullough tightly.

The two faced each other as they anxiously awaited word of who would be the new Miss USA 2017.

Verg was the second Indian American to represent New Jersey in the pageant and came ohhh sooo close to being the first Indian American to be named Miss USA.

She smiled and graciously hugged McCullough, when she was announced as the second Miss District of Columbia in a row to be named Miss USA.

The crowing was not without controversy as some felt Verg was robbed.

McCullough raised a few eyebrows when she was asked if health care was a right or a privilege, reported NJ.com.

“I’m definitely going to say it’s a privilege,” said McCullough, 25. “As a government employee, I am granted health care and I see firsthand that for one to have health care you need to have jobs, so therefore we need to cultivate this environment that we’re given the opportunity to have health care as well as jobs to all the American citizens worldwide.”

Vera’s answer about feminism in her question and answer session was a bit more vanilla.

According to Bustle, she was one of five immigrant contestants.

“The American dream is the idea you can come here with nothing, and if you are willing to work hard, you can do anything. You can change the world, and that’s what I’m here to do,” said the multilingual Verg.

The first Asian American to be named Miss USA was Macel Wilson of Hawaii in 1962.
