Spencerport native Hannah Lopa realized a dream in January when she earned the title of Miss New York and this weekend in Las Vegas the 25-year-old has her eye on another crown at the 66th annual Miss USA Pageant.
Preliminaries are already under way in the competition. The live television broadcast from the Mandalay Bay Events Center is 8 p.m. on Fox (Channel 31, cable channel 7). The show will feature evening gown and swimsuit portions of the event as well as the "Final Question Round."
"Tonight I fulfilled a lifelong dream of walking on the Miss USA stage! I feel incredible!!!" Lopa posted in an Instagram message on Thursday night. "Thank you to everyone who helped me get to this point in my life! The list is too long and I am so lucky for all of the love and support I've received."
Lopa is one of 51 contestants (50 states plus the District of Columbia). There were more than 165 for Miss New York. A 2010 graduate of Spencerport and a former dancer for the Rochester Rhinos and Rochester Lancers professional soccer teams, Lopa had come up short four times before when vying for Miss New York and also competed twice for Miss Teen New York. She was second runner-up last year and third runner-up in 2015.
"I know it sounds so cliche but I feel so lucky and so grateful for these memories and this experience!" she wrote on Facebook after winning in January.
