EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH MISS UNIVERSE AUSTRALIA 2017 FINALIST GEORGIA GRAVANIS
Miss Universe Australia 2017 is all set to crown the winner but the pageant fanatics have already chosen their favorites, and among one of those shining gems is the very gorgeous Georgia Gravanis. The winner of the national pageant will have the opportunity to represent her country at Miss Universe 2017.
Lets know a little more about this Georgia through this interview!
Can you introduce yourself?
Hello! My name is Georgia Gravanis (or GG) and I am a National Finalist for Miss Universe Australia. I am representing the state of NSW as one of the top 5 girls. I was born in Sydney, Australia but my heritage comes from Greece – my grandparents moved here 50 years ago and we still speak Greek at home.
My favourite things in life are to travel, embrace native cultures wherever I visit, foreign languages and of course chocolate (it’s all about balance!). I try and visit a new destination each year and earlier this year I was lucky enough to visit the beautiful Maldives and also will be visiting Bali with the Miss Universe Australia team!
I graduated with a Bachelor of Business degree two years ago, where I majored in HR, PR and International Business and I now work in human resources while continuing to model as I have been modelling from a young age. Studying has always been important to me and I have gone back to complete a fashion business course where I hope to expand my knowledge on fashion and the media and combine these degrees to open an International Public Relations Agency.
What unique characteristics would you say you bring to the Miss Universe Australia competition?
Determination, compassion, strong sense of self and honesty.
Some people think that beauty pageants like Miss Universe are degrading to women. Convince them that they are wrong.
Pageants provide us with a platform to raise awareness to the causes closest to us and those that are relevant in society – for me these are women’s health, climate change and education. There is a common misconception that pageants are purely based on appearances however it is important to recognise that the values we hold is more important and more meaningful than our appearances. Although there are certain people who don’t support the concept of beauty pageants, I have learned that not everyone will understand our journey, but we are not here to make everyone understand, we are here for ourselves and for what we stand for.
What qualities do you feel you have that would make you a great Miss Universe Australia?
I am so passionate and driven and the reason I entered Miss Universe Australia was to be able to inspire others. I am someone that has experienced many challenges in my life but without these adversities and how I have overcome them, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I hope to use my personal experiences to encourage others to fulfil their goals despite the challenges they have faced.
Your favourite beauty queen?
Monika Radulovic, former Miss Universe Australia 2015 is a beauty queen I admire as she represents what our country stands for – multiculturalism and acceptance of cultures. She is someone that has overcome many adversities assimilating into Australia with her family at a young age. Her experiences make me appreciate my Greek heritage and culture while being a proud Australian.
Radulovic represented Australia at 64th Miss Universe pageant where she placed in the top five, ending 4th Runner-up.
There have been two Miss Universe title holders from Australia: Kerry Anne Wells in 1972 and Jennifer Hawkins in 2004. Welles entered the Miss Universe pageant as Miss Australia; and Hawkins was chosen Miss Universe Australia and went on to win the Miss Universe title in Quito, Ecuador.
