With Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach set to crown her successor during the pageant’s coronation night on Jan. 30, 2017, Philippine Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo has confirmed that Miss Universe 2017’s main event will happen in Manila.
Along with this announcement, Teo revealed five other locations for the pageant’s other events. The country’s Tourism secretary has named the provinces of Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Aklan (Boracay), Cebu, and Palawan as possible Miss Universe 2017 locations.
Based on a report from GMA News Online, the first two provinces were included on the list because of their “recently gained significance” to the Philippines and the reigning Miss Universe. Davao happens to be hometown of the country’s new leader, President Rodrigo Duterte, while Cagayan de Oro is where Wutzbach hails from.
Meanwhile, Boracay and Palawan are no longer foreign to tourists worldwide. Both places have grown in popularity because of their beaches. Thus, including them on the list of Miss 2017 locations is sure to please the international pageant’s many spectators.
Miss Universe 2017 other details revealed!
According to the same publication, Miss Universe 2017 contestants are set to arrive in the Philippines on Jan. 15, 2017. The candidates are expected to stay in the country for a couple weeks, until the pageant concludes on Jan. 30 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
ABS-CBN News reported that Steve Harvey is also set to return as the pageant’s host. Previous reports have confirmed that Harvey still has a multi-year contract to fulfill with the Miss Universe Organization.
Harvey has since apologized to both Ariadna Gutierrez and Pia Wurtzbach because of last year’s coronation gaffe. Tourism Undersecretary Kat de Castro said that the 59-year-old comedian would also like to apologize to Filipinos after mistakenly naming Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the new Miss Universe instead of Wurtzbach.
