Chrissy Teigen blasts Miss Teen USA for 'lack of diversity' as she reacts to the final line-up
The model aired her views on the five finalists, who all happened to be blonde and blue-eyed
Chrissy Teigen threw shade at the Miss Teen USA pageant last night, accusing them of lacking "diversity" as the finalists were announced ahead of the grand finale.
Miss Texas Karlie Hay took home the top prize, and she was joined in the finalists photo by runner-up Miss North Carolina Emily Wakeman, second runner-up Miss South Carolina Marley Stokes, Miss Alabama Erin Snow and Miss NevadaCarissa Morrow.
All the girls had blonde hair, and Chrissy was quick to respond, claiming there wasn't enough "diversity".
She sarcastically tweeted: "Wow how can we choose from such a diverse bunch."
As some fans showed a mixed response to her comment, she quickly clarified what she meant however.
"It's fiiiiiine. Not their fault. I'm sure they are delightful women," she wrote. "Just funny. I'm not gonna write a think-piece on a damn pageant."
She was joined by a fair few fans who shared her view, as one wrote: "I think the blonde one with blue eyes and perfect eyebrows will win."
While one even joked: "Thought it was the same girl in 5 different poses."
And one joked: "Chrissy smh they all clearly have different eyebrow shades, look at that variety!"
Meanwhile the pageant came under fire for a completely different reason hours later, as tweets emerged from 2013, allegedly showing the winner of the show using "racial slurs".
Karlie later apologised, and said in a statement: "Several years ago, I had many personal struggles and found myself in a place that is not representative of who I am as a person. I admit that I have used language publicly in the past which I am not proud of and that there is no excuse for."
She added: "Through hard work, education and thanks in large part to the sisterhood that I have come to know through pageants, I am proud to say that I am today a better person."
She continued: "I am honored to hold this title and I will use this platform to promote the values of The Miss Universe Organization, and my own, that recognize the confidence, beauty and perseverance of all women."
The Miss Universe Organization later said in a statement: "The language Karlie Hay used is unacceptable at any age and in no way reflects the values of The Miss Universe Organization. As Karlie stated, she was in a different place in her life and made a serious mistake she regrets and for which she sincerely apologizes."
It added: "Karlie learned many lessons through those personal struggles that reshaped her life and values. We as an organization are committed to supporting her continued growth."
