Ariane Audett crowned Miss Alaska USA 2016
Ariane Audett was crowned Miss Alaska USA 2016 Saturday. She will represent Alaska at the 2016 Miss USA Pageant. If she wins there, she will go on to represent the United States in the Miss Universe competition. Audett is a student in biological sciences at the University of Alaska at Anchorage. She plans to become a physician. Her victory at the national pageant would make her the first titleholder from Alaska to wear the Miss USA crown. The highest-placing contestant from Alaska, so far, is Miss Alaska USA 1964 Patricia Marlin, who was named second runner-up at Miss USA. Miss Alaska USA 2015 Kimberly Agron was voted Miss Congeniality by fellow contestants at the national pageant. She shared the award with Miss Delaware USA 2015 Renee Bull.
Judges also chose Miss Alaska Teen USA 2016. Nneamaka Isolokwu was selected by judges to represent Alaska at the Miss Teen USA 2016 Pageant. The teen pageant is owned by the Miss Universe Organization, which also owns Miss USA. The teens ordinarily compete during the summer, with the pageant being webcast live on the official Miss USA website.
Miss USA contestants must be at least 18 years of age and under 27 years of age by Feb. 1 in the year they hope to compete. Miss Teen USA contestants must be at least 14 and under 19 years of age before Jan. 1 in the year they hope to compete. Contestants in state, national and international pageants are judged based on their performances in the categories of interviews, evening gowns and swimsuits.
