Judges in Utah on Saturday chose the state's representative to next year'sMiss USA Pageant. Teale Murdock of Bountiful, Utah was crowned Miss Utah USA 2016, according to the pageant's producer, Casting Crowns Productions. Murdock, 23, will represent the United States at next year's Miss Universe competition if she is crowned Miss USA.
Murdock is a communications major at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. She lists her hobbies as snowboarding, swimming, traveling, makeup artistry, modeling, pageants, working out, watching movies, reading, writing, coaching little girls for their upcoming pageants, trying new foods, listening to all genres of music and playing with her dog.
Murdock entered the Utah competition as Miss City Creek USA. If she wins the Miss USA crown, she will become the third contestant from Utah to win the national pageant. The first two were Miss Utah USA 1957 Charlotte Sheffield and Miss Utah USA 1960 Linda Bement. Bement was later crowned Miss Universe. Sheffield represented the United States as Miss World United States at the Miss World Pageant.
Contestants at the state, national and international levels are judged in the categories of interview, evening gown and swimsuit. Pageant applicants must have been at least 18 and under 27 as of Feb. 1, 2015. This year's pageant featured 42 contestants from throughout Utah. Preliminary competition was held Friday in Salt Lake City. Semifinalists were announced Saturday as the pageant got under way. The semifinalists competed again in the swimsuit and evening gown categories. When the contestants were narrowed to the top five, they were asked questions by the emcee.
