AbbyJade Larson crowned Miss Utah Teen USA 2016
AbbyJade Larson will represent Utah at next year's Miss Teen USA Pageant. She was crowned Saturday as Miss Utah Teen USA 2016 after two days of pageantry in Salt Lake City. The teen pageant is owned by the Miss Universe Organization, which also owns the Miss USA competition. In recent years, the teen pageant has been held during the summer and webcast on the Miss Teen USA website.
Larson is from Logan, Utah, according to her Facebook profile. She is a member of the Class of 2016 at Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. If she is crowned Miss Teen USA, she will become the first contestant from Utah to win the national title. The highest-placing teen contestant in the state's history, so far, is Miss Utah Teen USA 1995 Loni Sorden, who was named second runner-up. Miss Utah Teen USA 2010 Angelia Layton was third runner-up at the national pageant. Layton was later crowned Miss Utah USA 2014. She is best known for her stint as a contestant on "Survivor: Philippines."
Miss Teen USA candidates must be at least 14 and under 19 years of age before Jan. 1 in the year they hope to compete pageant. Contestants are judged in the categories of interview, evening gown and swimsuit. At the national level, the winning contestant spends her reign representing her platform, raises awareness and funds for a variety of pageant charitable alliances and travels throughout the United States. The pageant's charitable partners include Best Buddies, Girl Talk, Project Sunshine and Unite Against Bullies.
