SAM HASKELL III

Miss America CEO to celebrate 70 years of NH contest

DERRY — In honor of the 70th anniversary of the Miss New Hampshire pageant at the Stockbridge Theatre later this month, Miss America’s executive chairman and CEO will be attending.

Sam Haskell III, will be on hand for the crowning of Miss New Hampshire 2016 on April 30, according to organizers.

Haskell is the former executive vice president and worldwide head of television for William Morris Agency, where he worked for 27 years prior to his retirement in 2005, according to a news release. He serves as the chairman and CEO of the Miss America Organization and has been the executive producer of the Miss America Pageant telecasts on ABC the past seven years.

“I am so excited to join the festivities surrounding the Miss New Hampshire organization’s 70th Anniversary,” Haskell said. “I thank the people of New Hampshire, Holly Blanchard, Brenda Keith, Bill Haggerty and Claudette Jolin for their combined years of service to our organization.”

Involved in philanthropy, Haskell and his wife have helped raise millions of dollars for various causes over the past 15 years, according to the release. He served as the executive producer of “Mississippi Rising,” a three-hour, MSNBC special that generated more than $30 million for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and raised millions of dollars in college scholarships for Mississippi students in need of financial assistance, the release said.

Brenda Keith, president of the Miss N.H. Scholarship Program, said it’s an honor to have Haskell at the competition, as he only visits four states a year.

“We’re thrilled he selected the Granite State for our 70th anniversary celebration,” Keith said. “We are also ecstatic to show him how we do things here in New Hampshire, and I am sure he will be very impressed with our 28 contestants and our production.”

And once again, New Hampshire residents can help in the selection of 10 semi-finalists in the competition.

The public will have the opportunity to vote for one contestant they would like to see included among the semi-finalists, with a chance to win Miss New Hampshire 2016, said Bill Haggerty, co-executive director of the program.

Votes can be cast on the Miss New Hampshire Scholarship Program Facebook page, facebook.com/MissNH.

Tickets for the April 28 to 30 competition can be purchased online at the Stockbridge Theatre office (https://tickets.stockbridgetheatre.com/Attractions.ashx)
