From Serbia, to Adelaide to the world - Miss World finalist’s global journey

JELENA Todorovic says her perilous journey from refugee to proud Australian has transformed her outlook on life.
Today she takes another step forward in the Miss World South Australia state final.
Ms Todorovic and her family fled war-torn Serbia in 2000 when she was just seven, moving to Adelaide to begin a new life.
“It was a bad time....a tough period, my city (Belgrade) was bombed in 1999 so we had to leave. Australia did adopt me and give me a second home so I’m very grateful for that. I love Australia so much,” she said.
Now 22, Ms Todorovic, of Findon, competes today at the pageant’s first-ever SA final at Sfera’s Park Suites & Convention Centre. “I have a different outlook on life, I know how lucky I am and how fortunate I am to live in Australia.
“I’m not nervous (about the pageant), I’m really chilled.”
Ms Todorovic, and fellow finalists Tiana Della-Putta, 19 (dressed in Alexis George) and Yasya King, 22, are among 25 girls hoping to secure a one of two spots in the national final, in Melbourne later this year.
Miss World has a strong charity focus and all contestants must volunteer their time and raise money for Variety SA, the Children’s Charity.
