‘Enjoy the moment’: Pia Wurtzbach’s ‘confidently beautiful’ advice to Bb. Pilipinas 2016 candidates

After the historic win of Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as Miss Universe 2015, the heat is on for this year’s batch of ladies who are vying for Binibining Pilipinas 2016 titles.
Less than a month before the grand coronation night, 40 of the most beautiful ladies in the country were presented as official candidates in a press conference held by the beauty pageant’s organizers on Tuesday, March 29, at Novotel Manila in Araneta Center Cubao, Quezon City. These women were selected from a hundred applicants during a screening held in January.

Wearing pink swimsuits and nude high heels, the candidates strutted on the runway showing the members of the press and the panel of judges, including Wurtzbach, how confidently beautiful they all were. The presentation will determine which candidate gets the Most Photogenic Award.
Wurtzbach, who joined the ladies on the stage towards after the press conference, recalled her journey in the national pageant and gave some advice to the aspiring candidates.
“Some of you might be first timers and I’ll never forget the first time I ever joined Binibining Pilipinas. It definitely changed me for the better. Even though I came out as first runner up, not exactly a title holder, I still learned a lot from it.
“And please don’t forget the essence of pageants. .What’s the essence of pageants? Why do girls join pageants? The answer is because it is a platform for you to open doors for other opportunities in your life and don’t forget that. That’s not a Q&A answer for you to win a crown. That’s actually something that you really have to believe in—that all of this is temporary,” Wurtzbach said.

“You have to think of what you want in the future; you have to plan ahead. And for now, just enjoy the moment, enjoy the moment while you are here. You’ll never have this moment again..And make the most out of it like what we did. Know exactly what you want, be firm, and have fun with it. Because from where I am sitting over there (pointing at the panel’s table), I can tell which girls are genuinely having fun,” she added.
Fritz Ynfante, a consultant of Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. and a veteran TV director, the orgnization behind the pageant, presence is what they are looking for in a candidate.
“What we’re looking for is something that when the moment she enters the stage, she has presence; you know, that she has good aura. She doesn’t have to be very attractive but she has to have confidence not cockiness,” Ynfante told some reporters.
“Just be themselves because that’s what I teach them: how to bring out the best (because) the best is inside. If you feel good today, you come out good so it’s your presence. Not another Pia Wurtzbach, but somebody who is representative of that best,” he added.

Miss Universe 2010 4th Runner Up Venus Raj and Miss Universe 2011 3rd Runner Up Shamcey Supsup-Lee also graced the event, while Wurtzbach’s Binibining Pilipinas’ batch sisters Miss International Top 10 finalist Janicel Lubina, Miss Supranational 2015 semifinalist Rogelie Catacutan, and Miss Intercontinental 2015 First Runner Up Christi McGarry hosted the event.

Watch the grand coronation night on April 17 at Smart Araneta Coliseum. Other events include Binibining Pilipinas Fashion Show at the Kia Theatre on April 9, and Parade of Beauties at Araneta Center on April 9.
Get to know all 40 official candidates of the prestigious pageant. Surely, the judges will have a tough time selecting who will reign this year.
