One of the most anticipated, yet underrated, days of the Miss America competition took place on Monday.
At 4 p.m. the lottery to determine the contestants order of appearance for preliminary competitions began.
Miss New Jersey Brenna Weick will compete in the interview session, swimsuit competition and evening wear competitions on the second day of the preliminary rounds in September. She will then display her vocal talent on the third day and answer an onstage question on the final day of the preliminaries.
After the preliminary rounds, the judges of the competition will pick a select few to compete in the final round on September 11.
The lottery shuffled all 52 contestants and drew three at a time on a website. The first contestant had four minutes to call the Miss America Organization and select one of three groups -- Alpha, Mu or Sigma -- and a numbered order placement. All three groups have a set schedule of which events the contestants will compete in on a given night.
If a contestant failed to call within the four minutes, she was automatically given the last spot.
