Vietnamese Beauty Queen Wins Her Country’s First International Beauty Pageant

Nguyen Thi Ngoc Duyen, 23, was named Miss Global Beauty Queen 2016 after beating out over 50 contestants from around the world.

Duyen was the first Vietnamese woman to win an international beauty pageant at the awards ceremony, which took place in South Korea on Monday.

The first runner-up in the pageant was Romanian beauty Elisabetha-Eliza Ancau. Second runner-up in the contest was 21-year-old Elize Joanne de Jong from the Netherlands and third runner-up was 24-year-old Isabele Pandini from Brazil.

Duyen burst into tears when they announced her name in the finals.

On social media, she expressed that it was the best moment of her life and her pride in being Vietnamese. She had won bronze at the 2015 Vietnam Supermodel contest.

The 23-year-old beauty queen told TuoiTre (Youth) newspaper:

“I’d never thought of this before. Joining the competition, I just tried to perform the best I could and learn from other contestants.”

Her win was a milestone in her career.

She said: “When my name was called as the winner, I felt so proud as the name of our country was spoken. It’s proved that my effort was not useless. moreover, this is not my victory, it’s a victory for Vietnam, and for people who have loved and supported me.”
