Ellie Jones' lower jaw stopped growing when she was eight years old.
At first, her parents didn’t realise there was a problem, apart from the fact that her teeth were not aligned.
But when she went to have braces fitted to straighten her teeth when she was 14, an orthodontist realised her jaw had not grown for years.
Over the next six years, she underwent six years of ground-breaking treatment, which was “really painful but had to be done to sort the problem”.

Pictures of Ellie, both before and after surgery, went around the world in July and even prompted an invitation to shoot a portfolio from a London modelling agency.
It gave the keen photographer the courage to try her luck on the other side of the lens and inspire others.

“I saw the Miss Wales competition on Facebook and thought I would have a look.
“One of the charities is Beauty With A Purpose so I thought I could reach out to people. So I applied and got through.”

After a series of interviews Ellie was selected with three other local girls to compete in April’s Welsh final in Cardiff – and a crack at the Miss World title if she wins.
She said she never even told her work mates she was applying for Miss Wales and even her nain, Nova Jones, was struck dumb when she found out.

“She was absolutely speechless,” Ellie told the Daily Post . “All the family is proud that I have got to the final.
“I wouldn’t have considered doing this a couple of years ago. I was shy but it’s like I am a different person now.
“With all the nice comments I got from the media side of things I thought ‘Why Not, let’s go for it’.”
She says she is searching for local businesses to sponsor her and is also looking forward to doing charity work before next year’s Miss Wales final.

It was orthodontist Joy Hickman who realised Ellie’s jaw had not grown since she was eight.
She worked with consultant maxillofacial surgeon Emma Woolley to transform Ellie’s looks – and her outlook.
X-rays taken prior to and after surgery show the amazing difference it made to her appearance.
“It’s all really exciting because I have never done anything like this before,” she said. “It’s amazing.”
