Harriet Maleche: Miss World Bikini pageant in China
Harriet Maleche started modelling at Strut it Afrika agency then later went independent. She represented Kenya in the Miss World Bikini pageant in China and tells Faith Kyoumukama what rocks her style
Describe your style.
Elegant, but simple and laid back with subtle exquisiteness.
How long have you been modeling?
I started modelling in 2012. This is my fourth year in the industry.
Tell us about your experience as Ms World Bikini Kenya?
I had the most exciting and fulfilling time during the pageant. I say this because when I began modelling, I set my standards high and this was one of my goals being met. I learnt a lot from the beauty contest. It was the best experience ever.
Where do you frequently shop?
I shop mostly from Kenyan designers such as Afrostreet Kollection By Melanie, Afrostreet by Yvonne Odhiambo and Nato Design House. Internationally, I shop at H&M, Victoria Secret, Luis Vuitton, among others.
What’s your favourite shopping destination?
My best shopping destination is Dubai, USA and of course Kenya.
Why the three?
They have a variety of goods and services of high quality and value for money spent. They ooze with fashion.
Which trend are you currently into?
Short natural hair and a dress-tops to go with flat sandals or peep toe shoes.
High quality Peruvian hair or your natural hair
Natural hair any day. Everyone is going au naturel. It might be cheap to maintain, but is also very classy and bold.
What is in your bag?
My lipstick, phone, wet wipes, a tiny bottle of perfume, note book, powder, USB flash drive, model portfolio and cardholder.
If you had to choose a man based on his fashion accessories what would you look for first?
Shoes and a wristwatch. Simple and of good taste. There are men who concentrate too much on clothes, but neglect what describes them most.
What do you splurge most?
I obssessed with shoes and lingerie. I can’t get enough of them.
A fashion philosophy you always go by?
Comfort before glam. If it’s not comfortable discard it.
Any stylie tip on dressing?
Accessorising on even the simplest of attire makes all the difference. Nobody should fail to do that.
What do you strive to achieve as a model?
Using my talent and accomplishment to positively impact the local community. I want to be a change agent.
