Former Miss Alabama suspended from TV station after calling Dallas sniper a ‘martyr’

The former beauty queen who called the Dallas shooter a “martyr” has been suspended from her job at a Florida TV station.
Kalyn Chapman James, who was the first black Miss Alabama, is on administrative leave from WPTB2, where she hosted a weekly art program.
“I don't feel sad for the officers who lost their lives and I know that's not really my heart,” the Mobile native said in a controversial two-minute clip posted to Facebook Sunday.
“I value human life. And I want to feel sad for them but I can't help but feeling like the shooter was a martyr.”
The Miami public TV station issued a statement on Twitter.

“We do not condone any suggestion that terrorism is acceptable or that it should be tolerated,” it said.
The statement didn’t name the 1993 Miss Alabama specifically, but local media identified her as the suspended contractor.
"WPBT2 South Florida PBS does not condone the personal statements made by one of its independent contractors regarding the events in Dallas," the station wrote.
“It placed the contractor on administrative leave while it actively and carefully looks further into the matter and will determine additional course of actions based on its thorough review of the matter.”

Chapman shot the incendiary video in the car on her way back from church. She said she didn’t feel bad for the five police officers who died when sniper Micah Johnson opened fire at a Dallas rally Thursday. Police later killed the military veteran using a bomb-toting robot.
By Tuesday evening, Chapman’s video had been viewed more than 500,000 times — and now the former pageant star is dealing with the fallout.
“I'm being threatened, harassed and called awful names. I have a few things to share on this issue that I want everyone to know and then I am done,” she wrote in a follow-up post Tuesday.
“1. Micah Johnson is NOT a hero.
“2. I do not condone violence against anyone — I am against violence. I would like to see an end to black on black crime, white on white crime, black on white crime, white on black crime, ALL killing needs to stop!
“3. I want healing and peace for our nation and it will come when we can process our feelings, address the ones that don't align with our values (like I did) and reach out for help INSTEAD of causing more conflict or taking innocent lives.”
Chapman did not respond to the Daily News’ request for comment.
