Victoria Wiggins on Sunday was chosen among 27 contestants to be Miss Kansas USA 2016. Her crowning made her eligible to participate in next year'sMiss USA Pageant. If she wins at the national level, she will represent the United States at the Miss Universe Pageant later next year.
Wiggins entered the state pageant after being named Miss Milford Lake USA. Wiggins has a long history of successfully competing in pageants. She is also a winner of the Miss Kansas United States Pageant, which is not affiliated withMiss USA. Her crowning as Miss Kansas USA 2016 is the result of three years of competing well within the Miss USA system.
With roots in Junction City, Wiggins is eager to continue volunteer work with the USO, breast and ovarian cancer organizations, Big Brothers, Big Sisters and Warriors for Ross. She also enjoys speaking to children to encourage them to celebrate their unique characteristics.
If Wiggins wins the Miss USA Pageant, she will become the second titleholder from Kansas to wear the national crown. The first was Miss Kansas USA 1991 Kelli McCarty. She finished in the top six at the Miss Universe Pageant. Later, she became an actress who appeared in several television programs. McCarty is best known for her portrayal of Beth Wallace in the NBC Daytime program "Passions."
This year's pageant was held at the Kansas Star Event Center in Mulvane. Contestants were judged in the categories of interview, evening gown and swimsuit. Results in each category resulted in one-third of their total scores.
