Miss Nevada USA Emmy Adams
For 2016 Miss USA Pageant contestant 24-year-old Emelina Adams, it’s the shortest trip to check in and register for the national contest that begins today here in Las Vegas.
For the next 10-plus days, Emmy will call MGM Grand home instead of her Henderson abode as she prepares to represent Nevada at Miss USA at T-Mobile Arena on June 5 and airing on Fox.
The Miss Nevada USA beauty also will be onstage next Wednesday for the preliminary pageant. Hosts and performers for the show have yet to be announced, but expect to see Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines.
Pia won the title and crown at Axis at Planet Hollywood in December after the error by first-time host Steve Harvey when he mistakenly named Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez the winner.
Brunette bombshell Emmy has her first fittings for gowns, swimsuit and dance wardrobe today and after registration is assigned another beauty queen as her roommate. One week ago, along with the other contestants, she submitted her “Road to Las Vegas” video for the pageant.
In her video, Emmy references the story of her sister’s death, which I reported on Jan. 14, and how she’s turned the tragedy into an anti-drug and DUI message for Nevada students. It has become her platform for the pageant.
The Miss USA Organization welcomes the 51 contestants from the 50 states and the District of Columbia today along with a 52nd contestant who was selected from a nationwide search.
Official judges narrowed down the submissions for #FindingMiss52 to a final 10, then the public voted on whom would get a chance to compete. Fans selected 26-year-old Alexandra Miller from Oklahoma City, who had dropped out of competition after finishing runner-up twice in a local Oklahoma USA contest.
“That challenged me but allowed me to become comfortable with the woman I am today,” said Miss 52 Alexandra. “Now, though, I finally have the opportunity to compete on the big stage.”
Alexandra had one last year before reaching 27 to compete in the national pageant, but she would become ineligible if she took over from Miss Oklahoma Olivia Jordan, who went on to win the Miss USA title a year ago in Baton Rouge.
Alexandra decided to take over the Miss Oklahoma role, thus was immediately unable to enter this year’s pageant. However, fans decided otherwise, and because of the nationwide contest, she now goes onstage next week at T-Mobile.
