Karlie Hay crowned Miss Texas Teen USA 2016
Karlie Hay will represent Texas next year at the Miss Teen USA Pageant. She was crowned Miss Texas Teen USA 2016 on Sunday, according to the state pageant's website. In recent years, the pageant has been held during the summer in The Bahamas. The pageant, however, recently was sold by Donald Trump to WME/IMG. The precise date and location of the 2016 event has not been announced. The teen pageant is part of the Miss Universe Organization, which also owns the Miss USA Pageant.
Hay entered the state pageant as Miss Kemah Teen USA. Kemah is a community of slightly more than 3,000 located south of Houston in Galveston County. Kemah is one of the most-popular tourist stops in the Houston area.
If Hay goes on to wear the Miss Teen USA crown, she will become the third Texas contestants to win the national pageant. Miss Texas Teen USA 1996 Christie Lee Woods was first, followed later by Miss Texas Teen USA 2011 Danielle Doty. Miss Texas Teen USA 2015 Chloe Kembel, who crowned Hay on Sunday, finished in the top 15 at the Miss Teen USA Pageant.
Earlier this year, Danielle Rodriguez was crowned Miss Texas USA 2016. She will represent Texas in next year's Miss USA Pageant. If she wins there, she will go on to represent the United States at the Miss Universe Pageant. Texans have won the national crown nine times, more than any other state. Miss Texas USA 2015 Ylianna Guerra was first runner-up at the most-recent Miss USA Pageant. Miss Texas USA 1995 Chelsi Smith was crowned Miss Universe after serving as Miss USA.
